It's precisely for views like these that I go to the mountains. It's precisely for scenes like these that I live.
4600m, Laguna 69, Peru. Just breathe, I kept telling myself constantly while making an ascent to Lagoon 69 in the Peruvian Andes. Surrounded by mountain ranges and with streams crisscrossing the path, I tried to take in all the beautiful surroundings, but it was a struggle. My head hurt badly, my heart was pounding heavily, my lungs and brain weren't getting enough oxygen, and I constantly felt like passing out or throwing up. Hiking above 4000 metres, altitude sickness manifested itself in the hardest way. The simple task of breathing became difficult... But I still wanted to reach the lagoon, and because we were with a group, the pressure was intense. I felt heavy, with no energy in my legs and lungs.
