My Jazz journey so far

If you'd asked me at the beginning of this year, I never would've imagined this moment would happen. Who would've thought I'd be playing Jazz? And who would've believed I'd be headlining a show? I certainly would've been the last person to believe it.
My Jazz journey as a violinist began just four months ago when I first played at a street jam session, and it felt so natural to me. Soon after, I organised the very first themed Jazz-Culinary show on October 4th this year, serving mooncakes and giving a concert on Moon and Stars and Dreams. It was a sold-out event, thanks to the incredible talent of my fellow musicians.
On October 17th, I hosted a Jazz music themed dinner inspired by Wong Kar-Wai’s movies – that was another sold-out experience and truly wowed the crowd when Jazz met Food.
Out of the blue on October 20th, I was invited to headline the Jazz show on November 7th.
The next day, I had the chance to meet and learn about her songwriting ideas. I spent many sleepless nights thinking about the immersive set and how to best showcase Hong Kong Pop music and culture. I wrestled with 5-6 drafts and rebuilt it from the ground up. The set list was finalised exactly one week before the show.
Then, the wonderful crew – Bass, Drums, and Piano – came along. We had never played together as a full quartet before our only 90-minute rehearsal on November 3rd. Yet, from the first 30 seconds, I knew we were going to create something magical.
On show day, many ideas were still developing. I was so determined that this would be a night where the audience would feel an emotional ride – we would open our souls to them through music.
Here is the result – one of my favourite songs in the set list – with my all-time favourite Canto-pop Silver Hair 銀髪白 – written by, lyrics by, and arranged by the band. I've never felt so much about life and death, ageing, and fragility before. Thank you for lending her voice and making every single word meaningful. I almost cried on stage because of each one of you.
