I challenge you to stop. In the midst of what you are doing, just stop and calm down. No matter the business, the stress, no matter the rush of your working week, just stop.
Now, imagine taking a deep breath and plunging into the most beautifully coloured pristine mountain lake you have ever seen... Welcome to Lagoon 69 in Peru.
4600m, Laguna 69, Perú
Hiking above 4000 metres, the altitude sickness manifested itself in a really tough way. A simple task like breathing becomes difficult... But I still wanted to reach the lagoon, and because we were going with a group, the pressure was intense. I felt heavy, with no energy in my legs and lungs. Pavol was all right and he tried to be supportive, but I could see he would be disappointed if we couldn't make it. So I tried harder, pushing further and further. I desperately wanted to sit down for a while, but I knew that it would only make it worse. Now I know how it feels to truly challenge yourself. Physically and mentally, I had to force myself to take the next step and then the next and the next... really focusing hard. Now it was a battle of my body and my mind. Telling myself constantly that this had to be it, this had to be the last hill to go... After four hours of hiking, exhausted physically and mentally, I looked up.
There it was. Stunned, I sat down and looked. I saw a pristine turquoise lagoon. That colour! I went to the edge of the lake and just looked at it, trying to calm down and memorise it, to remember it in its majesty of a big frame, but also all the details.
