Ramen Jiro Mita Honten Experience

Ramen @ Ramen Jiro Mita Honten 25/5/2018 The shop opened at 8:30 am, and we arrived at 8:33 to find it already full, so we had a bit of a wait. Jiro Honten, the original spot for Jiro ramens. It officially began in 1968, moving a few times until settling in this location next to Keio University in 1996. It's always an honour to see a master at work. Food safety standards might be a bit relaxed, but that's not the focus here and now. It's all about the experience, the taste, it's the Jiro ramen. Fatty, tender pork chunks piled high on what was called a 'single' serving of noodles, but felt more like a double 'single' serving. Pre-cooked bean sprouts soaked up the extra fatty juices and chashu seasoning, creating a wonderful blend and balance. The noodles had just the right chew, picking up and spreading that lovely fattiness all across your mouth, your throat, your insides. It was delicious, and heavy. A food coma hit us both within minutes, and we were a pair of happy, slightly dazed cats heading to our next ramen destination. A special shout-out to Bee for joining me to tackle this amazing meal. Midway through, I was thinking, wow, she's actually eating Jiro ramen with me... she's pretty awesome.
